Jakarta (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has built 54 public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) in 2023, thereby bringing the total number of SPKLU to reach 624 across Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo noted in a statement here on Thursday that PLN is committed to supporting the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by providing SPKLU in various regions of Indonesia.

According to Prasodjo, the increase in the number of SPKLU can boost the community's confidence to shift to EVs.

"PLN continues to carry out transformation to improve services for customers, especially to support the acceleration of the EV ecosystem. Apart from charging stations, various features on the PLN Mobile (application) also provide services to facilitate EV users," he explained.

He highlighted that in 2023, the number of transactions at SPKLU rose significantly, reaching 119,600. The figure showed a 404-percent increase as compared to 29,627 transactions in 2022.

PLN also registered growth in the EV ecosystem as was reflected by electricity consumption at SPKLU. In 2023, the total consumption reached 2,464,825 kilowatt hour (kWh), an increase of 564 percent as compared to only 436,656 kWh in 2022.

The increasing interest of the community in EV is also in line with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' data, as of October 2023, during which 74,988 electric motorcycles and 20,414 electric cars had operated in Indonesia.

"Going forward, PLN will continue to add SPKLU, so that the transportation sector can be increasingly environmentally-friendly," he affirmed.

He stated that currently, there are 113 SPKLU in Jakarta, 150 in West Java, and 25 in Papua and East Nusa islands, among others.

"We believe that with SPKLU that are spread in Indonesia, especially in tourist destination regions, we also provide SPKLU to encourage green tourism in Indonesia," he stated.

PLN is also providing opportunities for all parties to collaborate in providing SPKLU with the partnership scheme.

"With this cooperation scheme, corporations, business groups, and even the community can participate to synergize because the involvement of various parties will accelerate the transformation of EV use in the country," Prasodjo remarked.
