Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo, underscored the importance of reforming the Indonesian police to resolve security issues, terrorism, narcotics misuse, online gambling, sexual violence, and money laundering.

"A reform within the police is expected to help the institution anticipate security issues genuinely," Pranowo remarked while presenting his vision, mission, and work programs in the third debate of the 2024 presidential election in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to Pranowo, the National Police (Polri) could execute a reform by taking various measures, including strengthening cyber systems and producing reliable cyber talents.

Pranowo said that in addition to resolving security problems, reform could also help the police affirm its position as an institution that genuinely protects the people of Indonesia.

Despite acknowledging the reform as a difficult task, Pranowo vowed to work together with his running mate, Mahfud MD, to strengthen the police institution if they are elected as the top leaders of the country.

"As a son of a police officer, I truly understand that this (reform) is a challenging task. However, I will surely strive to execute the reform," he stated.

The General Commission Election has determined Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as presidential and vice presidential pair number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as pair number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD as pair number 3.

Sunday's debate continues previous debates in Jakarta on December 12 and 22 last year. Two subsequent debates will then follow in January and February.

The themes for the third debate involve defense, security, international relations, globalization, geopolitics, and foreign policy.
