Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia must be determined to have a strong national defense in order to maintain its wealth so that it can become a prosperous country.

"We are determined to have a strong defense system," he said during the third presidential debate in Jakarta on Sunday night.

Prabowo said that a great defense system is essential to protecting the entire nation and Indonesian people, as stated in the 1945 Constitution.

"We need to return to our foundations and the national aspirations stated in our Constitution and the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution. The constitution firmly states that our first national goal is to protect the entire Indonesian nation and Indonesian people. So, the function of the state is to protect, meaning defense," he said.

For this reason, Prabowo emphasized that state wealth needs to be protected and managed so that people can live and have decent jobs, and state wealth no longer benefits only foreigners.

"We understand our country is very huge and rich; hundreds of years ago, countries from far away came to this archipelago to intervene and pit us against each other, to fight and to steal our wealth, until we became independent, and now we have to deal with our natural wealth being taken cheaply," he said.

After the presidential debate on December 12, 2023 and the vice presidential debate on December 22, 2023, the General Elections Commission (KPU) held the third debate.

The KPU has determined the three pairs of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, namely the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

The KPU has also scheduled the campaign period from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024, with the voting day on February 14, 2024.
