"The memorial park's monumental concept represents the 'breaking of the egg' of the lengthy battle that led to Indonesia's independence through proclamation heroes Mr. Ir. Soekarno and Mr. Mohammad Hatta," the Ministry's Director General of Cipta Karya, Diana Kusumastuti, stated.
According to Kusumastuti, Ir. Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta are represented by a statue with an egg shell and an 18-meter-high eagle that depicts the story of his passion and thoughts while battling for Indonesian independence.
The IKN Memorial Park was built by the Nindya Karya-Penta operational cooperation, at a cost of Rp361 billion (around US$23.1 million) and targeted to be completed in December 2024.
The Memorial Park area of 2,034 square meters (m2) consists of an altar area of 1,690 m2 and a staircase access of 344 m2 and is equipped with road and landscape infrastructure.
"The IKN Memorial Park is built integrated with the 12-hectare Civil Plaza and Nusantara Home Area that utilizes the second-highest point in the IKN Central Government Core Area (KIPP) after the Presidential Palace," Kusumastuti remarked.
Construction of the Memorial Park, which is integrated with the Nusantara Home area, is a point of view at IKN that is able to attract the attention of the public as well as state guests who visit IKN.
This Memorial Park also complements various facilities that have been built at IKN, including to prepare for the commemoration of the Republic of Indonesia's independence ceremony in August 2024.
In addition to the Memorial Park, the Nusantara Home area, Bukit Bendera, the Civilization Museum, and the Nusantara Home building will be created, connected to the forest trail that bears the theme of regional variety in Indonesia.
