West Lampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said that the government will help robusta coffee farmers in West Lampung District, Lampung, market their products nationally and globally.

"We have trade access overseas that can help market products from Lampung, including coffee," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Hasan said that the Trade Ministry has so far helped coffee entrepreneurs in the province enter into contract agreements and assisted coffee sellers in reaching wider markets.

"Additionally, we assist them in reaching agreements with other countries to eliminate trade barriers for Indonesian products," he added.

Hasan said that robusta coffee from West Lampung is one of the world-famous commodities from Indonesia.

"We have representatives in 42 countries, and Lampung has one of the most famous coffees in the world: robusta coffee from West Lampung," Hasan said.

Besides coffee, West Lampung was once well-known for pepper and cloves, but these commodities are no longer able to compete in the market anymore, he added.

"In the past, Lampung was famous for coffee, pepper and cloves, but now it's just coffee, which also has to compete with other regions," he said.

During his visit to the district, Hasan also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lake Ranau Tourist Market in Lumbok Seminung.

The Lake Ranau destination will combine the concepts of market and tourism, where staple food ingredients and local culinary items, souvenirs, and crafts made by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will be sold.

Hasan said that the Lake Ranau Tourist Market's development will boost trade activities and transactions, strengthening Lumbok Seminung as a tourist destination in West Lampung through integration with small and medium industries and tourism.
