Indonesia's digital competitiveness in 2023 was 45th best in the world.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said here on Thursday that Indonesia's increased digital competitiveness ranking is proof of the success of the government's digital transformation program.

The Institute for Management Development (IMD), in its World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR) 2023 report, said that Indonesia moved up six positions from 51st in 2022 to 45th in 2023 in terms of digital competitiveness.

"This is proof that the government's hard work in accelerating national digital transformation has been successful. Indonesia's digital competitiveness in 2023 was 45th best in the world," Setiadi noted at the Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) Office in Central Jakarta.

According to him, the improved score reflects the world's recognition of President Joko Widodo's digital transformation program.

The IMD WDCR report, published at the end of 2023, assigned digital competitiveness rankings to 64 countries.

The results of the research conducted by the Swiss institution showed that Indonesia's digital competitiveness was superior to a number of other Asian countries, such as India (49th), the Philippines (59th), and Mongolia (63rd).

Setiadi informed that Indonesia's success in digital competitiveness was assessed based on several aspects, including the aggressive investment growth in its telecommunications, banking, and venture capital sectors.

Another aspect was the growth of technology entrepreneurs who backed Indonesia’s prevailing and future technological readiness.

"These two main factors have succeeded in boosting Indonesia's digital competitiveness," he said.

In addition, the report also listed the ranks of some Indonesian smart cities such as Jakarta, which placed 102nd, Medan 112th, and Makassar 114th.

The IMD WDCR report identified two factors that need to be improved to increase Indonesia's digital competitiveness, namely education and training, as well as technology research and development.
