Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is currently drafting a ministerial regulation to make the local gaming ecosystem healthier.

Director general of informatics application at the ministry, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said that the regulation will replace the Communication and Informatics Minister's Regulation Number 11 of 2016 on Electronic Interactive Game Classifications.

"There will be a new regulation, which will include the classifications," he said during a discussion at the office of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics here on Friday.

According to him, the regulation on the gaming ecosystem will be more complex compared to the previous regulation, which only regulates game classifications.

The new regulation will require game publishers, both local and foreign ones, to be legal entities in the form of a limited liability company (LLC) in Indonesia.

The regulation will present new functions of the rating agency or game classifier so that the categorization of games in Indonesia can be made more organized.

The new regulation, which has been formulated together with game industry players, is expected to increase the positive impact on the development of the local gaming ecosystem and eventually, favorably impact economic growth.

"It is supposed to be completed in the near future. My target is before the end of this month," he said.

Currently, local and foreign game publishers are only required to register themselves with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics as Electronic System Providers (PSEs), in accordance with Government Regulation Number 71 of 2019.

Pangerapan said that as of Friday (January 26), the number of PSEs in the gaming sector stood at 1,385.

Currently, there is no regulation that specifically requires foreign game publishers to be a business entity and there is no regulation that regulates the game classifier agency.
