“Let us oversee the elections to ensure their honesty and fairness to produce a legitimate government,” the ambassador told ANTARA on Tuesday.
He urged embassy staff members in Madrid to avoid displaying political symbols while on embassy premises.
“Private choices should be kept at heart as part of our neutrality as civil servants,” he remarked.
Najib stated that the embassy makes serious efforts to disseminate information and educate on the importance of the elections, not just to Indonesians in Madrid but also in other regions of Spain.
“The Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) and the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) are actively disseminating information by visiting cities where Indonesians live and organizing meetings,” he stated.
The embassy also makes use of social media platforms and the consular offices to communicate with Indonesians, disseminate information, and respond to questions.
“We also provide information regarding the election, including technical information such as admission and voting processes, schedules, and other important information,” he remarked.
As the ambassador, Najib said that he actively shares his thoughts on social media platforms like YouTube.
“I am actively encouraging critical education regarding the election to help people understand and assess information wisely. All of it is an effort to create a conducive political climate and support a peaceful election,” he stated.
Based on reports from PPLN, Indonesians in Spain showed a high level of enthusiasm for the election based on the numerous questions asked about it, he said.
“I hope everyone can use their voting rights. We must show the world that we have matured in democracy,” Najib remarked.
He emphasized that the election should not only be fair but also a joyful event. The embassy will host a gathering party by serving Indonesian cuisine on the day of the election.
“I invite Indonesians who will attend the party to wear traditional clothes, creating a colorful and joyous atmosphere,” he stated.
According to the embassy, 1,567 Indonesians are eligible to vote in Spain.
