"We will prioritize remote and isolated regions in the distribution process of election logistics," said Alfi Syahrin, Head of West Pasaman KPU, on Sunday.
He noted that West Pasaman is home to remote and isolated areas that require special means of transport to navigate. There are several regions in the district that are connected only by dirt roads, making it difficult for four-wheeled vehicles to pass through.
Syahrin added that the district also houses several regions that are separated by the sea from Sumatra Island, such as Panjang Island in Sungai Beremas Sub-district.
For that reason, he said, his office will prepare special transport to ensure successful logistics distribution.
He explained that the KPU would deploy trail motorbikes to send election logistics to remote areas in the sub-districts of Gunung Tuleh and Talamau, as the areas are only accessible via muddy dirt roads.
As for ensuring election logistics delivery to Panjang Island, the local KPU office plans to use ships or boats.
He said that security personnel from the National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) would be escorting the distribution process.
"We are currently calculating the number of vehicles needed. Officers from Polri and TNI will escort the distribution of election logistics," he said, adding that the delivery will take place on February 8–9.
On voting day, February 14, the West Pasaman KPU will operate a total of 1,286 polling stations to serve as many as 296,294 voters.
