Jakarta (ANTARA) - The progress in construction of the Presidential Office Building in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara has reached 72.19 percent completion, according to the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN).

"We have made further progress in the development of government buildings and civil servant facilities in January 2024. For instance, the construction progress of the Presidential Office at the Presidential Palace Complex is 72.19 percent complete," OIKN spokesperson Troy Pantouw told ANTARA here on Wednesday.

Pantouw remarked that the work to construct buildings for the Presidential Secretariat and other supporting facilities had reached 58.21 percent completion.

Pantouw then noted that the government had been working on construction of the Ministerial Office Zone, adding that PT Indonesia Comnet Plus and PT Telkom Indonesia had been determined as primary providers of telecommunication infrastructure in the future capital city.

The spokesperson further noted that the government had also been making efforts to ensure sufficient supply of drinking water for Nusantara's residents.

"The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has built infrastructure for drinking water supply, such as the Sepaku Semoi Dam that has a capacity of 2,500 liters of water per second," he pointed out.

Furthermore, he stated that the ministry is planning to begin the operation of the Sepaku Intake, with a capacity of three thousand liters per second, this year.

He explained that all the measures are aimed at ensuring that IKN Nusantara will be habitable by the time the relocation of civil servants and security apparatus to the city begins in August 2024.

The government is planning to hold the ceremony of Indonesia's 79th Anniversary on August 17, 2024, at the development site of the capital city that covers parts of the districts of North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan Province.

It is said that the ceremony will mark the commencement of the gradual relocation of Indonesia's seat of government from Jakarta to Nusantara.
