Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono hoped that the new Indonesian leader would strive to improve water, sanitation, and connectivity infrastructure for the people.

"To live a decent life, there must be water and sanitation, but to prosper, we need connectivity," he stated at polling station (TPS) No. 161 in Kemang Pratama in Bekasi, West Java, Wednesday, where he cast his vote.

The minister remarked that developed countries provide water and sanitation facilities for their people to enable them to lead decent lives.

Hadimuljono cited as an example countries, such as Portugal, that already provides drinking water services to 99 percent of its population.

"To live a decent life, we need water and sanitation (facilities). In Indonesia, water and sanitation (are needed) to overcome stunting. Meanwhile, connectivity is needed to achieve people's prosperity," he remarked.

Earlier, the PUPR minister and his family cast their votes at TPS No. 161 at 12:06 p.m. local time.

At the polling station, he greeted and interacted with other voters.

On the occasion, Minister Hadimuljono was seen wearing black clothes, similar to Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

He also clarified that there was no specific reason for wearing black on the voting day.

In accordance with KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022, the national vote recapitulation for this year's election is scheduled to take place from February 15 to March 20, 2024.

The 2024 General Election consists of the presidential-vice presidential election, the legislative election including for electing the Regional Representative Council members, and the provincial and local legislative election.

Some 204,807,222 voters are listed on the permanent voter list (DPT) set by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

Three presidential-vice presidential candidate pairs in this year's election are Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as No. 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as No. 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD as No. 3.
