Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is seeking to strengthen the legal framework to support the implementation of blue economy-based priority policies, according to the ministry's Secretary General Rudy Heriyanto Adi Nugroho.

"The implementation of marine and fisheries sector plans for 2045 Golden Indonesia needs a legal framework to promote blue economy-based sustainable policies," he said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The ministry is expecting stakeholders to provide inputs, reactions, and ideal formulations on suitable legal support for implementing sustainable marine and fisheries management policies based on the blue economy.

The same sentiment was expressed by chairperson of the Constitutional Court for 2003–2008, Jimly Asshiddiqie.

He said that the ministry's legal support for marine and fisheries-based blue economy policies must continue to be strengthened to support the effectiveness of the policies in building a sustainable economy.

"Legal products such as regulations, administrations, contracts, court decisions, international conventions, and policy rules must be unified, harmonious, and not contrary to the Constitution. All of that must be strengthened to support blue economy policies toward 2045 Golden Indonesia, " he expounded.

Meanwhile, deputy I, presidential chief of staff, Febry Calvin Tetelepta, said that one of the challenges faced by the marine and fisheries sectors is the overlap of several policies.

He affirmed that efforts to improve the policies will continue to be carried out through synergy with various parties.

Meanwhile, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya, Dhiana Puspitawati, stressed that marine problems cannot be addressed by one ministry alone. There are several provisions that need to be taken as a reference, including the 1982 International Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS 1982.
