East Manggarai, E Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini reminded assistants of Family Hope Programme (PKH) recipients to work wholeheartedly in helping poorer residents to improve their well-being and livelihood.

"Our work is not complete if they are not achieving prosperity yet," Rismaharini stated during her visit to Golo Wune Village, East Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara, Sunday.

The minister said that assistants should actively listen and communicate about the needs of poorer residents to help them become well-off families.

She pointed out a PKH recipient assistant in Yahukimo District, Highland Papua Province, willing to hike for three days to reach a region with internet access to inform the minister about the residents' needs through a video call.

Rismaharini also highlighted herself who, despite risks to personal health, is willing to depart for East Nusa Tenggara to personally deliver aid to residents.

She said that assistants should focus their efforts to realise the welfare of locals, for instance, by organising labour-intensive programs in the village, such as road repairs and the development of water canals for irrigating crop fields and delivering drinking water.

Poorer residents should also be encouraged to process their own food to reduce their dependency on others, the minister said.

Golo Wune Village is blessed with fertile land, which locals can use for agriculture and farming, she said, adding that the ministry is ready to facilitate the development by providing seeds and farming equipment.

The minister's Sunday visit to Golo Wune Village in East Nusa Tenggara is to help local resident Maria Evin, whose story about her struggle to live in a shanty hut with an unstable income with her family become a viral phenomenon on social media.

To help Maria Evin and her family, Rismaharini provided business capital and livestock. Moreover, the ministry also provided basic food packages for locals and some useful equipment for people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs and canes.
