Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has emphasized the importance of aligning efforts to achieve environmental sustainability through net-zero emissions (NZE) with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the 2024 Nature Forum organized by Nusantara TV on February 28, he affirmed that Indonesia is fully committed to achieving the NZE target by 2060 by prioritizing environment-oriented development.

"I hope the 2024 Nature Forum will become an inclusive forum for stakeholders to encourage all parties to achieve NZE by 2060," Amin remarked in a written statement from his office on Friday.

The government's commitment to reaching net zero emissions is reflected in various programs.

For example, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is contributing to realizing the NZE and Sustainable Development Goals through digitalization.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, Nezar Patria, highlighted the positive environmental impact of digital transformation.

Digital transformation offers several environmental benefits, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions through decarbonization, promoting resource conservation through dematerialization, and preventing pollution through detoxification, he said.

"Digitalization can reduce carbon gas emissions and realize environmental sustainability through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology," he said.

Meanwhile, Loto Srinaita Ginting, an expert staff member at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), said that the ministry has taken the initiative to reduce decarbonization through five aspects.

These aspects include developing renewable energy, reducing dependence on coal-fired power plants, building an electric vehicle ecosystem, offering environment-based solutions, and issuing environment-oriented policies, such as for green and blue hydrogen.
