"The simultaneous (tree) planting is part of efforts to mitigate climate change and restore environmental quality," she explained in a statement read by the ministry's staff, Tasdiyanto Rohadi, in Tanah Merah village here on Thursday.
According to Bakar's statement, the acceleration of forest and land rehabilitation is aimed at improving environmental quality by increasing the number of trees and plants.
She said that the simultaneous planting activity aimed to increase public insight and understanding of environmental and forestry development programs.
Trees have multipurpose benefits for all living things, not only as oxygen providers but also as carbon storage.
Trees support the survival of humans and the Earth. They also play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, storing water, maintaining air temperature, suppressing air and sound pollution, and protecting against wind strikes, she added.
"This is a positive step toward restoring and protecting the environment. We not only benefit the Earth but also create a legacy for future generations," Bakar said in her statement.
Indonesia, as the country with the third-largest tropical forest in the world, has a key role in controlling the global climate, she added.
For this reason, on Forester Service Day, Bakar invited all foresters in the ministry, local governments, business leaders, activists, stakeholders, and the community to work together to plant trees on a large scale.
