Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on Friday, inaugurated the 2024 Riau Islands Ramadan (KURMA) Fair in Tanjung Pinang City, Riau Islands Province, by striking a bedug, a traditional drum-like instrument.
"I appreciate the Regional Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance of Riau Islands for organizing the 2024 KURMA Fair, which is in line with the directives of the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS)," Amin, as chair of the KNEKS, remarked.
The vice president expressed belief that the 2024 KURMA Fair would help Riau Islands expedite the growth and development of its Islamic economy and finance sectors.
The fair serves as a platform for business actors, communities, and the public to collaborate to create a superior and sustainable ecosystem for the sectors, he remarked.
Amin expressed hope that the event would stimulate the Islamic economy and finance in Riau Islands and raise people's awareness of halal products and services.
"Hopefully, this event will not only affect Riau Islands but also all regions in Indonesia," he stated.
The 2024 KURMA Fair will feature a range of activities, including fashion and cooking competitions, a bazaar, a halal product exhibition, and business-matching activities.
On that occasion, the vice president also officiated an international halal product seminar titled "Navigating Global Halal Value Chain: Trends and Challenges."
Amin explained that the international seminar was being held to develop an ecosystem for the halal value chain, bolster people's literacy regarding halal products, and support Indonesian halal business entities to reach the global market.
"This seminar could open cooperation opportunities between local halal business actors with potential international partners, such as those from Malaysia and Singapore," he pointed out.
Accompanied by Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad, VP Amin also had the opportunity to review halal products displayed by local micro, small, and medium enterprises participating in the 2024 KURMA Fair.
