"It could be so, but, of course, we will discuss it first in plenary."
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the General Elections Commission (KPU), August Mellaz, has not ruled out the possibility of the 2024 election results being out on March 20, 2024.

"Yes, it is possible (to determine the election results on March 20), but the point is that we have time until March 20," he said at the KPU Office here on Monday.

According to him, until the 20th day of the ongoing recapitulation, the KPU has authorized vote recapitulation in 33 out of 38 provinces in Indonesia.

The KPU is also scheduled to authorize vote recapitulations in Southwest Papua and West Java provinces on Monday night.

Further, the commission will on Tuesday (March 19) finalize its decision on three provinces that did not participate in the national recapitulation, Mellaz informed. The three provinces are Maluku, Papua, and Highland Papua.

"Looking at the ongoing process, I think we completed (the vote recapitulation) on March 18th, and we will be able to complete all the recapitulation deadlines on March 19th," he said.

Meanwhile, he revealed that the election result will be discussed at a plenary meeting. However, he could not confirm whether the result would be directly announced on March 20.

"It could be so, but, of course, we will discuss it first in plenary," he explained.

The 2024 General Elections were held to elect the president and vice president, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.

The national permanent voter list (DPT) for the elections comprised 204,807,222 voters.

In accordance with KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2022, the national vote recapitulation for the elections has been scheduled from February 15 to March 20.
