Jakarta (ANTARA) - Assistant to the National Police Chief, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, confirmed that the flood victims in Demak District, Central Java, have been handled well by the National Police (Polri) humanitarian team.

"Thanks to the synergy and collaboration of the Indonesian Military, the National Police, volunteers and local government, the victims can be handled very well,” he said here on Saturday.

According to him, his side has provided trauma healing services, and strived to fulfill the evacuees’ needs.


On Saturday, a group of high-ranking police officers visited the evacuation location at public primary school SDN Ngaluran, Karanganyar Sub-District, Demak, Central Java.

At the evacuation site, there were the trauma healing and health post to serve evacuees.

Upon arrival at the location, the police officers were greeted by evacuees.

Polri has deployed the Trauma Healing Team from the Psychology Bureau of the Police’s Human Resources, the Police’s Medical Team and the Women Police’s Disaster Alert Team to provide health services and psychosocial support to the flood-affected residents.

On that occasion, Prasetyo and other officials also interacted with children who were receiving trauma healing therapy and joked a little with them so they would not be too stressed because of the ongoing flood disaster.

He also saw the on-duty policewoman in the public kitchen preparing all food needs for the evacuees.

Furthermore, he expressed his concern for the flood disaster that had hit the Demak area twice, namely in February and March.

He hoped that the humanitarian assistance can be useful for the affected communities.

He added, that the humanitarian mission, including the trauma healing post, that is being carried out from Friday, March 22 to Monday, April 2, can be continued if necessary.
