Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) of the Religious Affairs Ministry emphasized that products originating from non-halal ingredients must include non-halal information.

"The JPH regulations aim to provide protection and accommodate the public in accessing information on halal and non-halal products," Head of BPJPH Muhammad Aqil Irham stated on Monday.

He remarked that the government will implement the halal certification obligation from October 18, 2024.

His side emphasized that products originating from non-halal ingredients are excluded from the halal certification obligation.

"Non-halal products are exempt from the halal certification obligation," Irham remarked.

These include liquor or food made from pork that cannot be registered with a halal certificate.

He also highlighted that these products can still be sold amid the implementation of the halal certification obligation in October 2024 as long as they give a clear explanation or description of their ingredients on the packaging.

For instance, products containing pork must state the ingredients by including text or a picture of pork on the packaging.

This aligns with the provisions of Article 92 of Law Number 33 of 2014 stating that business actors who produce products originating from non-halal ingredients are required to include non-halal information in the form of images, signs, and/or writing printed on product packaging, certain parts of the product, and/or certain places on the product.

Furthermore, Article 93 stipulates that products originating from non-halal ingredients must include non-halal information in the form of pictures, writing, and/or names of materials with different colors in the composition of the materials, for instance, with red color.

"Law Number 33 and Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 also regulated that the inclusion of non-halal information as intended in Article 92 and Article 93 must be easy to see and read and not easily erased, removed, and damaged," Irham emphasized.
