Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Foreign Affairs Ministry has expressed the hope that the ceasefire resolution on Gaza, Palestine, ratified by the United Nations Security Council will be implemented in its entirety by the parties involved in the conflict.

"We hope that the implementation of this resolution can be carried out well," Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said on Tuesday.

She added that the Indonesian government supports Resolution No. 2728 of 2024, which was ratified through a vote by the UN Security Council in New York City, the United States, on Monday.

Marsudi continued to communicate with the Indonesian Ambassador in New York, who was following the vote-counting process, until the resolution was passed after 14 countries agreed to support it. The resolution demands an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan, paving the way for a sustainable and lasting ceasefire.

The minister noted that the resolution ratified by the UN Security Council is the first to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

The resolution also regulates provisions that are in line with international humanitarian law and UN Security Council resolutions. Therefore, every point in the resolution must be implemented, the minister emphasized.

One point highlights the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian aid and strengthen the protection of civilians throughout the Gaza Strip and reiterates the demand to remove all obstacles to the provision of humanitarian aid on a large scale.

It is known that Israel launched a deadly military attack on the Gaza Strip after a cross-border attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas left around 1,200 Israelis dead.

More than 32,333 Palestinians have been killed and more than 74,694 people injured amid mass destruction and shortages of basic necessities.

According to the UN, the Israeli aggression, which is entering its 171st day, has forced 85 percent of Gaza's population to become refugees amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
