Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, on Tuesday, gathered ambassadors of Arab countries in Indonesia to discuss current issues in Palestine, primarily the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

At a discussion that took place for an hour here, the minister highlighted the importance of united action and stance in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people as well as the moral imperative to support the Palestinian nation.

Indonesia and Arab countries should focus their efforts on ensuring thorough implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2728 that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, she said.

"Indonesia welcomes the resolution. However, we all have a huge responsibility to ensure the resolution will be implemented and respected by Israel," Marsudi stressed.

The minister emphasized that the situation in Palestine would not deteriorate further if earlier UN Security Council resolutions on Palestine were respected.

The minister expressed concern that Israel persisted in its attacks in the Gaza Strip and disrespected UN resolutions.

Marsudi also reiterated Indonesia's full support for Palestine to gain full membership status in the United Nations.

"Indonesia fully supports the full membership status for Palestine in the UN and called ambassadors to advocate for the same goal," she stated.

The minister reiterated Indonesia's support for international efforts to rescue UNRWA, which has played its role in helping Palestinian refugees. She also commended countries that decided to resume their funding for the UN body.

Meanwhile, ambassadors at the meeting lauded Indonesia's initiatives in addressing Palestinian issues at the global level.

They said that they have observed all steps taken by Indonesia in defending Palestine.

"All the Indonesian people partook in supporting Palestine. I respect your initiative in various international organizations to support Palestine," Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun stated.

The meeting was attended by seven Arab ambassadors from Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Syria, Oman, and Egypt.

Meanwhile, officials from Bahrain, Mauritania, Yemen, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Libya, Qatar, Kuwait, Tunisia, Sudan, Somalia, and Morocco embassies also attended the meeting.
