Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League have assigned the foreign ministers of Indonesia and seven other member countries to initiate immediate international action to formulate an international move to halt the war in Gaza.

On behalf of all member countries of the OIC and Arab League, the foreign ministries of those countries were also assigned to pressure for a real and serious political process to achieve permanent and comprehensive peace in accordance with established international references.

In addition to Indonesia, the member states whose foreign ministers were also assigned included Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, Nigeria, and Palestine, as well as any other interested countries.

The resolution that the OIC and Arab League's member countries adopted during the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit which was concluded in Riyadh on Saturday also assigned Secretary-General of both organisations to join the foreign ministers.

The resolution also called upon member states of the OIC and Arab League to exert diplomatic, political, and legal pressures, and take any deterrent actions to halt the crimes committed by the colonial occupation authorities against humanity.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a statement that ANTARA received here Sunday that paragraph 11 of the resolution indicated the two organizations' recognition for Indonesia's relentless efforts to resolve the Palestinian issues, including Gaza's current situation.

Minister Marsudi opined that the resolution contained 31 unequivocal and strong messages that reflected the OIC and Arab League's resolution to put an immediate end to the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank.

In addition to firmly condemning the Israeli brutality in the besieged Gaza Strip, the leaders of the OIC and Arab League, including President Joko Widodo, pushed the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) to issue a resolution that can be instrumental for ending the violence, paving the way for uninterrupted aid distribution, and upholding international law.

At the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit, the OIC also rejected the forced displacement of 1.5 million Palestinians from Gaza's north to south, citing it as a war crime according to the Fourth Geneva Convention.

"The OIC (and the Arab League) also urged the UNSC to issue a resolution to condemn Israel's destruction of hospitals in Gaza," Marsudi stated.

The Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit has demonstrated the solidity of members of the OIC and the Arab League in putting an immediate end to the brutal Israeli aggression against Palestinians, she added.
