“Of course, the way is to increase our ability. The keys are competence, safety, culture, and digital ethics,” the ministry’s coordinator for community digital literacy, Rizki Ameliah, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She added that by understanding and implementing those pillars, the community is expected to become wiser in consuming information in the digital space.
Ameliah also reminded the community of the importance of verifying information before sharing it in the digital space.
She said that even if a piece of information seems positive, if it does not have real benefits, it should not be shared further.
Only information that has been verified and has benefits is considered worth disseminating, while still paying attention to the potential negative impact on other people.
“We must check whether it harms other people or not, whether it defames other people or not,” she underlined.
According to her, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has prepared the aduankonten.id website as one of the efforts to help people check the validity of information.
Other stakeholders such as the Indonesian Anti-Defamation Community (Mafindo) have launched the turnbackhoax.id website, which has a similar function as the ministry’s website.
The websites are meant to help the community check the validity of information before spreading it.
She further said that her ministry is still committed to handling the spread of hoaxes. One of the measures taken by the ministry to check hoaxes is education, which is being carried out comprehensively from upstream to downstream.
