Jakarta (ANTARA) - A pediatrician from Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital, Nastiti Kaswandani, has advised parents who are planning to travel during the Eid homecoming season to prepare complementary foods (MPASI) beforehand.

In a written statement received here on Thursday, she urged parents to prepare the complementary food before traveling.

"From the start, good planning is a must, that MPASI must be prepared. We need to pay attention to how to prepare the food while on the road, whether there is a place to buy the ingredients and to prepare them," she explained.

Travelers who travel by land must anticipate the risk of traffic jams, she said and advised parents to carry complementary food from home.

She underlined the importance of storing food safely during the homecoming trip, for instance, by using a cooler box, to reduce the risk of food damage.

"Bring a cooler box to ensure the food ingredients are well-kept, or bring simple cooking utensils that can warm and process food, such as a small rice cooker," she said.

She explained that cooking utensils make it easier for parents to prepare or warm up complementary food.

During the homecoming trip, she said, parents can also buy fresh ingredients for complementary food.

"If there is a market around, you can buy healthy food ingredients, and this will be better because children's food is good if it is fresh," she expounded.

She added that it is important to pay attention to children's diet during the exodus trip, which can take hours.

Furthermore, she asked parents to ensure their children eat or consume complementary foods during the trip to avoid sickness.
