Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, on Thursday reviewed the security measures implemented at the Jakarta Cathedral, which is holding a series of Easter Day services.

He was accompanied by other officials from the ministry, police, and military during his visit to the cathedral on Thursday.

"We carried out security coordination for the Easter activities, and we have checked in the field and all the security measures are going well," Tjahjanto said during a press conference at the cathedral.

He said he expected the Easter service to take place safely.

"We hope that the worship activities can be held safely and filled with a sense of security and peace, as this will be carried out from Thursday to Sunday," he added.

On the same occasion, Jakarta Archbishop Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo thanked the government and the National Police for securing worship activities at the cathedral.

"Mr. Coordinating Minister, on behalf of Catholics, especially those in Jakarta, I would like to thank you for your presence representing the Indonesian government, here with us who are celebrating Easter starting with Maundy Thursday," Hardjoatmodjo remarked.

He also invited the congregation to use the Easter celebration as an opportunity to improve their personal life as well as the life of the nation and society.

"Once again, thank you, Mr. Coordinating Minister and the entourage whose presence here really made us feel at ease and to the gentlemen (police) outside who guard us," he said.

At least 162 personnel from the military and police have been deployed to guard the Jakarta Cathedral during the Easter Triduum or three holy days.

Some police personnel, with the help of security dogs and the Mobile Brigade's Gegana (Anti-Bomb) Troops, also sterilized the area to secure the celebrations at the cathedral.
