Director of Immigration Traffic, Felucia Sengky Ratna, stated that the autogate helps to speed up and ease the immigration process. For the immigration inspection process, international travelers only need to scan their passports at the automatic gate and carry out biometric verification independently in 15-25 seconds.
"Autogate can be used by Indonesian citizens (WNI) holding electronic passports, polycarbonate electronic passports, and non-electronic passports," Ratna noted in a statement from her office on Tuesday.
In addition, foreign citizens (WNA) can use the facility if they have an electronic passport and are holders of an e-VoA and Indonesian e-Visa, Ratna remarked.
The 108 autogate units operated at Indonesian international airports comprise 78 units placed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, and 30 units at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali.
However, Ratna remarked that children aged 14 years and under cannot use the autogate facility. Hence, children traveling with their parents can go to the Immigration inspection counter to be given a departure or arrival stamp.
Meanwhile, children traveling alone, or unaccompanied minors, can go directly to the immigration office at the airport or port for assistance, she remarked.
She explained that the autogate door will not open and will show a red color if the passenger is detected using invalid documents or has a criminal record.
"This tool integrates facial recognition cameras with border control management," she stated.
For immigration inspection at the autogate, Ratna reminded travelers to ensure that their entire face is visible. Accessories, such as hats and/or masks, should be removed first. Additionally, the passport cover must be removed first for passport scanning.
Travelers can thereafter electronically scan data on the passport biodata page by placing the biodata page on the top side of the machine.
Once the passport is scanned, travelers can position themselves to face the screen for facial recognition, and the autogate door will open, she added.
