Jakarta (ANTARA) - A Health Ministry's official stated that the increase in cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) recently had not reached its maximum point while adding that dengue cases are projected to continue to increase.

"Based on our monitoring results, the case (count) will continue to increase but has not reached its maximum point. It may continue until the next transition season," the ministry's Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, noted in a statement from his office on Tuesday.

As of March 26, or the 13th week, dengue cases in Indonesia were reported to have reached 53,131, with 404 people reported to have died from the disease, he remarked.

From the disease monitoring system, Bandung City recorded 1,741 dengue cases, followed by 1,195 cases in Kendari City, 1,143 cases in West Bandung District, 939 cases in Bogor City, and 909 cases in Subang, Rondonuwu added.

Speaking in connection with the mortality cases, he said that 17 deaths were recorded in Jepara, 15 in Subang, 14 in Bandung District, 13 in Kendal, and 12 in Bogor.

However, he remarked that the bed occupancy rate (BOR) at hospitals is still safe.

"BOR is still safe. There are empty beds available along with ICU rooms," he noted.

Considering the recent increase in dengue cases, he also appealed to the public to not overly panic. He then reminded the public to maintain personal and environmental cleanliness in an effort to control dengue cases.

One of the efforts is by practicing the 3M Plus movement for Mosquito Nest Eradication regularly and thoroughly, especially during the rainy season.

“From now on, check the cleanliness at home and in the surrounding environment. Do not use items that have the potential to cause stagnant water, as it can become a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes. If you find it, you should immediately drain it or cover it," he emphasized.
