Depok, W Java (ANTARA) - The University of Indonesia (UI) has extended its global collaboration by inking a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korea's Gangwon State University.

The two universities focus their collaboration on student exchange, research collaboration, and employment training, UI Deputy Rector for Human Capital and Assets Dedi Priadi remarked here, Monday.

The MoU had been signed by him and President of Gangwon State University Kim Kwang-Rae during his visit to UI's Depok campus on March 26, 2024, Priadi noted.

"It is a long-term collaboration because UI has been committed to expanding its global collaboration," he stated, adding that as a world-class university, UI continues to expand its global collaboration with various global partners, including the Gangwon State University.

Gangwon State University is a public university, which is directly managed by the Gangwon provincial government, and famous for its research and education institutions owing to its modern facilities.

Meanwhile, Kim Kwang-Rae was quoted as saying that as the only public university in Gangwon, his university is responsible for providing high-quality education to support industrial development in Gangneung City and its outskirts.

Gangwon also has a central position in industrial development in South Korea, including in providing job markets for workers and university students willing to take up side jobs, he remarked.

He revealed that his university is currently planning a free course on culture for international students while adding that the Global Gangwon Culture would soon be opened to expand a cross-cultural understanding of Korean culture.

Due to the presence of UI's Korean Language and Culture Program since 2006, UI students have a great opportunity to join Gangwon State University's free course on culture, he was quoted as saying.

ANTARA earlier reported that UI, whose main campus is located in Depok, West Java, has been adjudged the best university in Indonesia.

In the annual ranking of global universities released by Webometrics in January 2023, UI was named the best university in Indonesia.

UI Rector Ari Kuncoro noted in a recent statement that the university has maintained its commitment to becoming an innovative, independent, inclusive, dignified, and leading higher educational institution in Southeast Asia and the world.

One of the efforts to globalize its education and research has been pursuing collaborations with reputable overseas universities.

UI's Faculty of Engineering, for instance, has also worked with Osaka University to support research projects that may lead to groundbreaking innovations and solutions for addressing global challenges.
