President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Thursday ordered Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono to reorganize the Muara Bungo Market located in Bungo District, Jambi Province.
"Most importantly, the Muara Bungo Market needs to be improved to attract merchants to fill the inner part (of the market). Since the inner part is dark, Mr. PUPR minister will conduct rearrangement," he remarked after inspecting the market.
As quoted from a statement received from his secretariat in Jakarta, the head of state emphasized the need to enhance the quality of the market's infrastructure to elevate the living standards of the merchants and sustain local economic growth.
To that end, Jokowi has instructed Minister Hadimuljono to immediately reorganize the Muara Bungo Market.
"I have instructed Mr. PUPR minister (to reorganize the market), so that the merchants will feel comfortable, the market will be busier, and the parking area will be available. We hope that traditional and modern markets will remain busy," he stated.

In addition to reviewing the physical condition of the market, Jokowi also checked the supplies and prices of several basic commodities.
Based on his review, the president noted that some basic goods at the market are still being sold at quite reasonable prices.
He also drew attention to a range of potential sectors in Jambi Province, such as plantation, agriculture, and mining.
The president underlined the need to properly manage the potential while praising Jambi people for their hospitality.
"The potential is enormous. All the people here are nice. Those living in Bungo, Merangin, and Tebo are good people," he remarked.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Jambi Governor Al Haris, and Bungo District Head Mashuri accompanied President Jokowi to the market.
