Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Metropolitan Police urged residents seeking to return home for Eid al-Fitr celebrations to derive maximum benefit of its free secure car storage service if they plan to leave their vehicles behind.

Those looking to use the service may come to the Kelapa Gading, Koja, Penjaringan, Tanjung Priok, and Pademangan police stations, North Jakarta Police Chief Sen. Coms. Gidion Arif Setyawan stated here, Thursday.

Setyawan said he has provided parking lots for North Jakarta's homebound travelers at the five police stations.

He has also instructed other police precincts to prepare parking areas for those in need of the service.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had earlier ordered police stations across Indonesia to provide the secure car storage services for Eid homebound travelers.

Setyawan further cautioned local residents to stay alert while leaving their homes vacant to reduce risks of car and motorcycle thefts during the Eid holiday season.

He suggested that they seek their neighbors' help for watching their homes, as cases of thefts tend to rise ahead of the Eid festivity because thieves could instantly get money by selling the stolen valuable goods.

As reported earlier, some 193.6 million people are expected to travel during this year's Eid holiday season.

State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga has predicted that the peak of this year's Eid homebound exodus could occur on April 6, 2024, with around 259 thousand vehicles passing through four main toll gates.

The four toll gates are Cikampek Utama and Kalihurip Utama (Trans Java and Bandung), Ciawi (heading to Puncak resort), and Cikupa (heading to Merak ferry port).

Meanwhile, the peak of outbound Eid travel is expected on April 15, with about 300 thousand vehicles passing through the four main toll gates.

Regarding this year's Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second-largest Muslim organization after the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), has determined that Eid will fall on April 10, 2024.
