Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government plans on commencing the relocation of civil servants to the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in September 2024, State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas revealed.

According to the minister, IKN Nusantara will initially host the national ceremony of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Indonesia in August.

"The first batch of relocation will take place in September. However, some ministers will start working from the IKN in July," he remarked at a press conference at the Office of the Communication and Informatics Ministry, Jakarta, on Wednesday

Anas then underlined that the government would provide a special allowance for the first batch of civil servants to be transferred to the new capital city.

"Civil servants who join the first batch of relocation will be provided with special allowance. We will provide special allowance for pioneer civil servants," the minister stated.

Anas also noted that the government had prepared a total of 47 towers of apartments to accommodate civil servants and security apparatus that will join the relocation process in stages.

According to the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, he added that each of the towers hosts sixty 98-square-meter residential units.

"Some colleagues say that the towers are nice and big. Imagine, each residential unit covers a very wide area of 98 square meters," he pointed out.

Anas then furnished details on the allocation of the 47 apartment towers, saying that civil servants will inhabit 29 towers, while the rest of the towers are dedicated to personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri).

Each civil servant will reside in one of the 1,740 available apartment units, while the security apparatus will inhabit 1,080 units, he revealed.

The minister further remarked that the government is targeting to complete the development of eight civil servant apartment towers by July 2024, another 14 towers by August, and eventually conclude the construction of all the 29 allocated towers by November.
