“The two parties also agreed that the issue of Palestine must be resolved fairly through the two-state solution if we want to see stability in the Middle East,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated that Indonesia and China have the same stance in responding to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.

Marsudi made the statement after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to receive Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.

“During the discussion, China’s and Indonesia’s position is the same in (responding to) this issue, and the president also expressed optimism that China will use its influence to prevent an escalation,” she remarked.

Since the latest hostility between Iran and Israel, which was triggered by an attack on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1, Indonesia has continued to intensify diplomacy to prevent the impact of the conflict from spreading further.

In diplomatic communications that Marsudi had with various countries, including Iran and the United States (US), Indonesia also underscored the need for parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint.

President Jokowi and Minister Wang also emphasized support for the independence of Palestine through the two-state solution.

“The two parties also agreed that the issue of Palestine must be resolved fairly through the two-state solution if we want to see stability in the Middle East," the minister remarked.

President Jokowi and Wang also exchanged views on support from the majority of member countries of the United Nations (UN) for Palestine’s full membership in the UN.

"In this case, once again, Indonesia's position and China's position are the same, that we fully support Palestine's full membership in the UN," she highlighted.

Indonesia is the first destination of Wang’s international visits from April 18 to April 23, 2024. After Indonesia, the Chinese top diplomat will visit Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
