Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and ex-British prime minister Tony Blair discussed investment plan in the new capital Nusantara for new renewable energy development, one of which is solar panel construction by the United Arab Emirates.

The UAE's investment plan is to build solar panels in Nusantara that will be facilitated by the Tony Blair Institute.

"This business-to-business scheme will come from the UAE. This is facilitated by the Tony Blair institute, and the details will be conveyed later," Investment Minister and Investment Coordinating Board (BPKM) Head Bahlil Lahadalia stated here on Thursday.

Lahadalia made this statement after accompanying President Jokowi in a meeting with Blair at the Presidential Palace.

Based on the proposal that will be studied further, he said, the solar panel project will be able to produce up to 1.2 gigawatts of electricity.

Lahadalia also ensured that state electricity firm PT PLN will be involved in this cooperation project.

"We will definitely collaborate with PT PLN because (in accordance with) the law, the authority of this project should be under PLN. After that, we will formulate the regulation," he remarked.

However, he steered clear of confirming when the cooperation contract for the solar panel project will be inked by Indonesia and the UAE.

In addition to the UAE investment plan, Jokowi and Blair discussed the implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Nusantara.

Presidential Regulation Number 14 of 2024 concerning the CCS Implementation Activities stipulates that carbon storage is prioritized for domestic carbon producers, with a share of 70 percent.

Meanwhile, foreign parties are allowed to store their carbon, with a share of 30 percent, with the contractor's permission and the CCS operating permit holder.

Tony Blair Institute (TBI) for Global Change Indonesia is one of the institutions that collaborates with the Indonesian government in the development of Nusantara.
