The Tony Blair Institute is willing to help and support us in three issues related to data centers, satellite-powered connectivity, and digital ID.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi and former British prime minister Tony Blair discussed Indonesia's journey in carrying out digital transformation during a meeting in Jakarta on Friday.

After the meeting, Setiadi said that Blair affirmed the commitment of his non-profit organization, the Tony Blair Institute, to helping Indonesia achieve its national digital transformation vision.

"The Tony Blair Institute is willing to help and support us in three issues related to data centers, satellite-powered connectivity, and digital ID," the minister informed.

Setiadi further said that the Indonesian Government and the Tony Blair Institute would conduct joint research to study the three issues to ensure successful digitization in Indonesia.

"So, we will conduct a joint study, with the Tony Blair Institute providing suggestions. The main points of the study are data centers, digital ID, and connectivity. Those points are interrelated," he expounded.

Meanwhile, Nezar Patria, Setiadi's deputy, underlined that the government warmly welcomes the institute's support for Indonesia's digital transformation efforts.

"We gladly welcome the support provided by the Tony Blair Institute for the acceleration of digital transformation in the country," he stated.

Earlier on Thursday (April 18, 2024), President Joko Widodo met with Blair at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

During their meeting, the two figures touched upon investment plans in the new and renewable energy sector in the new national capital (IKN) Nusantara.

President Widodo and the former British prime minister also talked about how to implement carbon capture and storage (CCS) properly in Indonesia's future capital.

The Tony Blair Institute is planning to support the execution of green energy investment plans in Nusantara.

Blair also made a visit to Indonesia last year during which he discussed the digitization of bureaucratic activities and potential investments in IKN.
