Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati highlighted the roles of finance ministers in ensuring their countries achieve the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target in addressing climate change.

Indrawati made remarks while presiding over the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (CFMCA) with Dutch Finance Minister Steven van Weyenberg in Washington D.C., on Wednesday (April 17).

"The roles of finance ministers are essential in ensuring each country will achieve their NDC target," Indrawati noted as per her statement on Friday (April 19).

Apart from assuring financial support, Indrawati emphasized the need for finance ministers to take part in preparing, revising, and implementing the NDC. Finance ministers should also develop sustainable and healthy macroeconomy and fiscal policies, she added.

Three issues deliberated during the ministerial meeting are the roles of finance ministries in bolstering NDC implementation, gradual abolition of subsidies that harm nature, and mobilization of the global market to fund the green transition.

Indrawati remarked that the meeting is an important platform for finance ministers to share their best practices.

"Including with the environmental affairs ministries as the national focal point for the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) implementation in respective countries," she noted.

Apart from the CFMCA meeting, the minister attended the IMF Spring Meetings in Washington D.C. where she spoke about the current volatility of regional and global economies due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

Indrawati also presented her keynote speech at the “Navigating the Mid-transition Period of the Low-Carbon Shift: The Critical Role of Finance Ministries” high-level event in Brookings Institution, also in Washington D.C.

In her speech, Indrawati explained that energy transition is a complex process since political and social aspects should be considered in its implementation.
