KND Commissioner Rachmita Maun Harahap said that to make the free Eid travel agenda more accessible for people with disabilities, organizers should ensure the dissemination of information on the free travel through more diverse mediums.
Harahap highlighted that the promotions for the recently concluded free Eid travel program took place only through two-dimensional mediums without motion picture, sound, or sign language assistance, which hindered people with disabilities from becoming aware of the program.
"For instance, if the promotion took place only through a flyer, those with visual disabilities would not see it. Hence, the promotion medium should be more diverse; information conveyed by text should be converted to sound," she expounded here on Monday.
The commissioner also asked organizers to promote the free travel program for longer and from an earlier date.
"We hope that by 2025, the free Eid travel agenda can be promoted at least two months before the departure date," Harahap said.
Meanwhile, she urged all parties organizing free Eid travel agendas for the disabled community in the future to involve the commission from the stage of agenda planning to promotion.
KND's expansive network with communities of people with disabilities would help organizers promote free Eid travel, which would make more people with disabilities join the agenda.
Involving KND in planning would also help make free travel programs much more inclusive for the disabled community, she added.
"Hence, (the free Eid travel agenda) will have more participants because it has a longer promotion period and is more accommodating to the disabled community," Harahap said.
