Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has said that games containing violence can be blocked if they do not comply with the Communication and Informatics Minister's Regulation Number 2 on Game Classifications.

"Blocking can be carried out if they do not follow the regulation's classifications. Especially for those containing violence, deviant sexual behavior, and even online gambling," deputy for special protection of children at the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, Nahar, said when contacted here on Monday.

According to him, games that contain violence, such as Free Fire, will be studied to check their compliance with the regulation and their distribution will also be supervised strictly.

Nahar said that the government is currently preparing a regulation to protect children from the negative impacts of the digital space.

The government is targeting to complete and issue the Presidential Regulation on the Protection of Children from Online Games this year.

"We are currently perfecting various regulations related to child protection in the digital or online space. Later, preventive reports or documents can be used for complaints," he said.

He explained that the regulations not only cover online game classifications but also procedures for registering games to get approval for distribution from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

He expressed the hope that children will continue to access the Internet or the digital space while abiding by rules.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) said that online games that contain violence, such as Free Fire, or other digital content showing violence, deviant behavior, and online gambling can be blocked based on the ministerial regulation.

"From the regulation, it is clear that they can be (blocked) if they have an impact on the behavior of children who play those games," KPAI member Kawiyan said.
