"With knowledge, solutions can be numerous, and with that the community can solve any dynamics, including social problems, arising from development," she said, according to a statement from the Social Affairs Ministry on Friday.
The minister was speaking at the Open Senate for the Inauguration of Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) Professors.
She pointed out that modernization and economic and technological progress have boosted people's civilization, but as a result, had led to social dynamics, such as digital crimes and pornography.
"Hence, along with technological advances, social problems also develop," she said.
Rismaharini encouraged the academic community of Poltekesos to think of various solutions by observing scientific advancements, as social science is the most complex science.
She also advised the Poltekesos Senate, guests, and students who attended the inauguration to not give up. Although various difficulties are encountered in studying and applying social sciences, they must continue to strive, as the solutions can benefit the people at large, she said.
On the same occasion, Professor Ellya Susilowati, in her speech, highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to deal with the myriad social problems.
She underlined that cases of sexual violence against children must be handled with the integration of basic principles of social work, case identification, and ensuring child safety.
She also recommended conducting referral and offering emotional support, increasing children's awareness, carrying out cross-professional teamwork, and involving the community in the handling process.
For this reason, she lauded the Social Affairs Ministry's Command Center at 171 as part of the handling of cases of sexual violence against children.
