She remarked that the AMR control innovation, applied in the hospital since 2017, had become a reference in East Java and could be emulated by other hospitals across Indonesia.
Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Health Ministry commended the implementation of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) control system at Dr. Iskak Tulungagung Regional Hospital and designated it as a national pilot project.

"The AMR control system at Dr. Iskak Hospital is very good. This method can be replicated in all hospitals in Indonesia," the ministry's Director of Health Service Quality, Irna Lidiawati, stated on Friday.

She remarked that the AMR control innovation, applied in the hospital since 2017, had become a reference in East Java and could be emulated by other hospitals across Indonesia.

"If it is included in a national program, with a target of 100 percent, can it be implemented in hospitals throughout Indonesia? The answer is yes," she emphasized.

According to Lidiawati, there are several processes of administering antimicrobial control system in hospitals, even without equipment or microbiology.

Lidiawati is keen to disseminate information to other hospitals about efforts carried out by Dr. Iskak Hospital.

"Other hospitals should learn to conduct AMR Control similar to Dr. Iskak Hospital," she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Dr. Iskak Tulungagung, Kasil Rokhmad, said that his side had encouraged the implementation of the AMR control system in all hospitals nationally.

"Not many hospitals can implement this program. Therefore, the Health Ministry came to see our method in AMR control that can be replicated in other hospitals in Indonesia," he revealed.

He elaborated that every patient suffering from an infectious disease will be given antibiotics based on the type of germs. This way, these planted germs will be tested with appropriate antibiotics.

"The germ must be planted first. Germs are living creatures. Once the patient enters the hospital, we check the germ first, and we test it with the appropriate antibiotics. It takes three days until we can give the appropriate antibiotics," Rokhmad explained.

According to Rokhmad, not all hospitals can perform antimicrobial resistance cultures for infected patients. However, Dr. Iskak Hospital is able to control antimicrobial resistance in patients suffering from infections.

"When we give the right antibiotics, the patient does not have to be hospitalized for a long time because of antimicrobial resistance control," he added.
