Kendari, SE Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry will hold a Jalur Rempah or Spice Route cultural exhibition with the theme "Manusia, Biosfer, dan Rempah" or "Human, Biosphere, and Spice" from April 30 to May 2, 2024.

The exhibition will be organized in Wakatobi district, Southeast Sulawesi, as part of the 15th Southeast Asian Biosphere Reserve (SeaBRnet) meeting.

Director of cultural development and utilization at the ministry, Irini Dewi Wanti, said here on Saturday that the Spice Route exhibition will be a unique event as the archipelago's spice route was used for trade and cultural interaction in the region.

"The exhibition will have five booths that will present the narration of the Spice Route's glory, the Wakatobi history, the Bajau Tribe, and the Wakatobi Biosphere," she informed.

She said that it will not only celebrate the Spice Route's culture and history, but also spotlight the biosphere reserve's role in preserving the ocean environment in Indonesia.

"In this activity, Bajau Tribe leaders and experts will discuss deeply about the current issues in the biosphere reserve and the local traditional practices in the '500 boats of Bajau fishermen,'" she explained.

The cultural event will also feature local arts such as the Palibuang Dance, Duata Dance, the Bajau's unique musical instrument gambus, lilgo performance, and martial arts silat performance with ganrang traditional drums providing background music.

"This event is being held to introduce the Bajau culture to 300 students from elementary school to high school levels," Wanti informed.

She added that the participation of the community is needed to support the Spice Route exhibition and cultural event.

"We expect active participation from various parties in making this exhibition a success so that it can reach wider people and have an impact on the preservation of biodiversity and cultural tradition," she said.
