Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of five companies from Vietnam have expressed interest in investing in clear lobster seeds in Indonesia, according to Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fishery Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

"I can confirm that five Vietnamese companies are interested (in the investment)," he remarked at a press conference held in Jakarta on Monday.

Trenggono revealed that the five companies are currently making preparations for cultivating lobsters in Jembrana District, Bali Province.

"Why there? (It is) because research has shown that the region is very suitable (for lobster cultivation). Note that cultivation cannot take place just in any place. Hence, they (the companies) had to conduct research to achieve a high rate of success," he explained.

Trenggono then remarked that his ministry had proposed Rp8,500 (US$0.52) as the benchmark price for every lobster seed cultivated under cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam.

"According to our calculation, we can set Rp8,500 per seed as the benchmark price. However, it would be okay if the price were set higher. That would be good," he explained.

Earlier, Trenggono had inked a cooperation agreement with Vietnamese Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Le Minh Hoan at the Vietnamese Presidential Palace, Hanoi, on January 12 this year.

Under the agreement, he said both nations would be collaborating to establish sustainable fish cultivation; ensure the quality and safety of fishery products; and also produce, promote, and trade such products.

Furthermore, the agreed bilateral cooperation encompasses joint measures against illegal, unreported, unregulated fishing (IUUF); exchange of fishery data and information; transfer of technology and expert exchange; and capacity-building of human resources in the fishery industry.
