Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry will establish national- and regional-level task forces to anticipate human rights violations in the business or working environment.

Formation of the task forces is a follow-up to Presidential Regulation Number 60 of 2023 concerning national, business, and human rights strategies signed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on September 26, 2023, the ministry's Director of Human Rights Cooperation, Harniati, remarked here on Monday.

"In accordance with this presidential regulation, a national task force and a regional task force will be formed. The national task force is chaired by the minister of law and human rights and its members are relevant ministries and agencies," she explained.

During a discussion, titled "Protect Workers' Human Rights," which was broadcast online on Monday, she explained that the national task force will have its own agenda in carrying out law enforcement in the business environment.

She remarked that the task force's duty will be in accordance with each responsibility of the ministries and agencies involved.

Meanwhile, the regional-level task forces will be chaired by each governor in every province.

"The governor will involve the heads of the ministry's regional offices and related agencies, including communities under non-governmental organizations," Harniati stated.

She said the ministry made this effort to ensure that the protection of human rights for workers and the community can go hand in hand, both nationally and regionally,

Harniati explained that the national-level task force's work program will align with task forces in the regions.

She believes the alignment is necessary, so that efforts to protect human rights from the upstream to downstream levels can be harmonized and to prevent policy gaps.
