Agam, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - The government will conduct repairs on structures damaged by cold lava floods coming from Mount Marapi that swept several regions in West Sumatra, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto stated.
"The emergency measures will include the reparation of public facilities as well as houses of residents affected by the disaster," Suharyanto remarked during his visit to a flood-hit area in Agam District, West Sumatra Province, on Tuesday.
Suharyanto quoted West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi as saying that people in the province are in urgent need of repairs on some broken bridges and inaccessible parts of a national road.
He further noted that the BNPB will work along with other relevant institutions to ensure the recovery and handling of survivors, including by supplying them with essentials to meet their basic needs.
The official then revealed that Mount Marapi's cold lava floods have killed at least 50 residents.
"As of today, we have registered 50 casualties found in a number of regions," he stated.
Meanwhile, Head of the Search and Rescue Office of Padang City Abdul Malik explained that some of the dead victims were hit by the cold lava floods, while some were buried by a landslide on Sitinjau Lauik Road connecting Padang City and Solok District.
He then provided details on the victims, saying that 20 of them were found in Agam District, 16 in Tanah Datar District, seven in Padang Pariaman District, and some others in Padang Panjang City.
