Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on synergy in women empowerment and child protection between the ministry and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

"In an effort to complete the five directions by the president to our ministry, we continue to strengthen synergy and collaboration with various stakeholders, including through signing a memorandum of understanding with the MUI," the minister noted in her statement here on Wednesday.

Puspayoga is upbeat that this collaboration would improve the quality of women empowerment, gender equality, and child protection in Indonesia, especially with the support of religious organizations.

Through this MoU, she also hopes that both parties would formulate and implement policies related to women's empowerment and child protection from a religious perspective.

In addition, this collaboration aims to increase the role of women and families in gender equality, education, health, social, economic and entrepreneurship as well as targets to fulfill children's rights and protection.

Moreover, the MoU is expected to prevent child marriages; prevent violence against women and children; provide data and information related to women's empowerment and child protection; and strengthen service institutions in the efforts to fulfill children's rights through religious organizations.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, who was present at the event, stated that the MUI has two visions in carrying out its duties and functions, including serving the people and government partners. MUI is also committed to developing the society, people, and nation.

Hence, the MUI forges collaboration with government agencies having the same vision.

"Today, the MUI held a Halal Bihalal and invited many figures to rebuild relations with all elements of the nation," he stated.

"MUI is also establishing partnership cooperation to build togetherness in order to carry out various empowerment efforts," the vice president remarked.
