Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday discussed cooperation opportunities with Hungary in several sports, including judo, rowing, canoeing, and water polo.

The discussion was carried out by the ministry's secretary, Gunawan Suswantoro, and Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia, Lilla Karsay, at the office of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta.

"Looking at the history of cooperation between Hungary and Indonesia, namely on April 4, 2017, there was a discussion with the ministry's secretary regarding opportunities for cooperation in sports such as judo, rowing, canoeing, and water polo," Suswantoro said in a statement released by his ministry.

He welcomed the visit of the ambassador to the ministry's office, saying it would help bolster bilateral relations in sports going forward.

He affirmed that the results of the discussion will be conveyed to Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo so that cooperation in the fields of sports and youth can be followed up.

Karsay said that the purpose of her visit to the ministry was to pursue coordination for the June 12, 2024, visit of the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto, to Indonesia and schedule a meeting with Minister Ariotedjo.

She explained that the visit would discuss cooperation in sports, the main points of which are currently being prepared so that the discussion can be more detailed.

The ambassador further explained that two years ago, cooperation was pursued through the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of each country and agreements were reached in the sports sector, including on the exchange of coaches and sending of athletes from both countries.

The Hungarian athletes came from swimming, water polo, canoeing, and fencing disciplines, while the Indonesian athletes came from badminton and rock climbing sports.

She noted that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the exchange of coaches and the sending of athletes has been implemented.
She informed that last year, Indonesia's fencing team participated in a one-month training camp in Hungary.
