The acting deputy of training and development at BKKBN, Irma Ardiana, said that the score means that the families are at the developing stage, whereas the target for the index is 70.
"Now, we have transformed, it is called Quality Family Village. Not only focused on couples of reproductive ages, but also on (all) life cycles," she informed in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Wednesday.
She said that the program used to be called Family Planning Village, but it has since been modified to make it more inclusive. Its reach is no longer limited to couples, but also babies and toddlers, women, teens, and the elderly.
She informed that efforts to empower people are now intertwined with economic activities to encourage families to become productive.
"Stunting prevalence in Indonesia is at 21.5 percent. If we look at the absolute, it means that Indonesia still has challenge, since there are still 4.7 million toddlers with stunted growth in Indonesia," Ardiana pointed out.
Other challenges include lack of education or employment for teenagers, capped at 22 percent. This is followed by the growing number of elderly due to extended healthcare accessibility.
She opined that the achievements of Sidomulyo hamlet, Jambewangi village, Banyuwangi district, East Java, in empowering its people through Kampung KB have been extraordinary and can serve as parameters for similar endeavors in other areas and even overseas, should the efforts be emulated there.
On the same occasion, assistant for economy and development at Banyuwangi's Regional Secretariat, Dwi Yanto, said that Kampung KB focuses on four variables, which are babies and toddlers, teens, women and parents, and elderly people.
Yanto stressed that education and training are vital for empowerment as they enable women and the elderly to be productive, for example, by making snacks and items from locally sourced materials.
He also pushed for the prevention of early marriage among teens as well as promotion of innovations by locals.
He said he expects that the program will be replicated in other areas and the central government will lend its support for the effort.
An Ambassador Goes to Quality Family Village event was hosted by BKKBN from May 13–15, 2024, in Banyuwangi to showcase the program to other countries, such as Canada, Australia, Singapore, Romania, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Finland, as well as global organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNFPA, and USAID.
The event also aimed to serve as a means to develop cooperation with them.
