"First, the Indonesian government and people express deep sorrow over the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in the helicopter crash while he was traveling," Jokowi stated in Agam District, West Sumatra, on Tuesday.
He was visiting West Sumatra Province to review the locations affected by the cold lava disaster of Mount Marapi in the districts of Agam and Tanah Datar.
On his official X account, @jokowi, on Monday (May 20), the president also expressed his condolences to the family and the Iranian people.
"I offer my sincere prayers to the grieving families and the Iranian people," he stated.
He hoped that this unfortunate tragedy would not directly impact the world economy, especially those related to oil prices since it will have a multiplier effect on other sectors.
"If oil prices increase, the prices of other goods are expected to increase as well," he noted.
During his working visit to West Sumatra, Jokowi was accompanied by the First Lady and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, the President's Military Secretary Major General Rudy Saladin, Presidential Security Guard (Paspampres) Commander Major General Achiruddin, and Acting Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, M. Yusuf Permana.
The helicopter carrying President Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and several state officials crashed in Varzaqan, East Azerbaijan Province, on May 19.
The incident occurred when President Raisi and his entourage were on their way to Tabriz City after inaugurating the Qiz Qalasi Dam in the Khoda Afarin region, East Azerbaijan Province, which directly borders Azerbaijan, on May 18.
