Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir asked for suggestions and advice on the development of Indonesian special economic zones (SEZs) and tourism from Emaar Properties, the developer of the world's tallest skyscraper Burj Khalifa.

He asked for the suggestions when accompanying Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar, the founder of Emaar Properties, during a visit to several domestic tourism destinations, namely Labuan Majo in East Nusa Tenggara, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali Island.

"We noted down suggestions given by Mr. Alabbar. He explained the development of Dubai as a global center for tourism. Currently, Indonesia is developing the Golo Mori area in Labuan Bajo, envisioning it as an ecotourism destination," he stated.

In posts uploaded on his Instagram account @erickthohir that were cited here on Sunday, Thohir said that he and Alabbar visited Mandalika after Labuan Bajo's Golo Mori. Mandalika constitutes an SEZ that hosts an international-class racing circuit that has held MotoGP races.

He added that the SOEs Ministry is planning to develop an international-class golf course within the Mandalika SEZ to promote Indonesia's sport tourism.

The minister further noted that he and Alabbar concluded their safari by visiting the Sanur SEZ in Bali Province, which is projected to emerge as one of the spearheads of Indonesia's national tourism sector.

He expressed hope that the SEZ would help the country bring progress to its tourism ecosystem and economy.

"This region will become an international-level sustainable and integrated tourism destination. In addition to becoming home to five-star hotels and convention centers, the Sanur SEZ will also be equipped with international-class hospitals," he concluded.
