These two SEZs must be new sources of economic growth in Bali
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs collaborates with the Bali Provincial Government in expediting the development of the Sanur and Kura-Kura (Turtle) Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The ministry's secretary, Susiwijono Moegiarso, noted in his statement received here on Thursday that the acceleration of SEZ development is in accordance with Law No. 6 of 2023 on Job Creation.

Moegiarso, who serves as acting Secretary General of the SEZ National Council, stated that the government had stipulated a decree related to the PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) as a development and management business entity that manages the Kura-Kura Bali SEZ area, including investment flow.

Hence, he said, the collaboration between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Bali Provincial Government is required to support the development.

According to Moegiarso, formal requirements for development of the two SEZs have been completed.

"Next, we and the Bali governor will continue to push its development," he remarked.

Currently, 20 SEZs are spread across Indonesia, two of which are located in Denpasar, Bali, namely the Sanur and the Kura-Kura Bali SEZs.

The two SEZs are expected to increase Bali's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and open new jobs.

Furthermore, the Kura-Kura Bali SEZ is expected to attract investment worth Rp104.4 trillion (US$6.9 billion) and directly and indirectly open new jobs for 99,853 people by 2025.

Meanwhile, the Sanur SEZ, which is more focused on the health service sector, is targeted to attract investment of Rp10.2 trillion (US$682 million) and absorb a workforce of 43,647 people.

"These two SEZs must be new sources of economic growth in Bali. In addition to the tourism sector that brings in foreign tourists, we have a special segment for the upper-middle class for these two SEZs, which we will develop, so that their spending can push Bali's GRDP forward," Moegiarso stated.
