Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, has instructed Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to send health workers and build a field hospital in Gaza, Palestine.

Prabowo conveyed this directive following a meeting with Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

“I reported to Mr. President, and he gave me an instruction. We are ready to provide a hospital and send our health workers to Gaza,” he told the press.

The president-elect said that the dispatch of health workers and the installation of the field hospital will be carried out in collaboration with Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Through this joint effort with the UAE, already operates a hospital in Gaza, Indonesia can help evacuate and treat local residents, he said.

Prabowo has also received a mandate from President Jokowi to attend a meeting in Jordan to discuss the current conditions and situation in Gaza and pay a visit to Saudi Arabia.

During Thursday's meeting, Prabowo reported his recent visit to Singapore to attend the 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue, where he met with several world leaders, including the new Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
